Chinese runners swept all the women's medals at the 2010 Beijing Marathon here on Sunday despite a heavy rain, while Ethiopian Siraj Gena won the men's title.

Amid the rainy and humid conditions, the 24-year-old Wang Jiali of China won the race at two hours 29 minutes and 31 seconds, 15 seconds faster than the silver medallist Chen Rong. Wang Xiaoshu claimed the third at 2:30:21.

"I'm very happy to win," said Wang, who was the third at 2009 Xiamen International Marathon. "The weather is quite cold, but I think to me it was OK."

Wang took the lead from her teammate Chen Rong in the last 10km. "I ran under my own rhythm, which could save lots of vitality."

Chen Rong, 22, was a hot favorite before the race. "The cold rain affected my performance," she said, winner of the 2010 Dalian International Marathon Race. "But I am satisified with my result."

Ethiopian Siraj Gena almost led from the start to win the race at 2:15:45.

"The race was very tough given the weather conditions, but the Ethiopians usually have training under such bad weather, so we get used to it easily," Gena said through his coach after the race.

"My foot was pain after 37 kilometers, which affected my performance." He added.

Gert Thys of South Africa took the second at 2:15:56, while Kenyan Mathew Sigei finished third at 2:16:01.

"It is below my expectation," said the 38-year-old Thys. "But you can do nothing when the weather is bad. So I can only accept the result."

The 2010 Beijing Marathon drew almost 30,000 runners from 48 countries and regions.
