Heilongjiang province will set up 72 care homes for the elderly with nursing facilities throughout the province by the end of next year. The newly built care homes could provide accommodation, nursing care and retirement living choices for over 10,000 senior residents in the province, which takes up half of the total elderly population.

There are now over 140,000 "five guaranteed" people who have no dependants or incomes to rely on in Heilongjiang. At present 30% of them has been cared in public homes.
