[Photo: weibo.com] The comments made by a Beijing Yitel Hotel manager on a recent attack incident involving a female guest at the hotel has sparked outrage among the Chinese public. "I believe the incident has been hyped up. First, there was no death after the incident; secondly the hotel was not on fire; finally, the victim was not raped. The police are investigating the case. And that's about it," said the manager in an interview video posted on Weibo by China's Shandong Television. The comments have angered tens of thousands of Chinese netizens, who have since bombarded the official Weibo account of the hotel's parent company Home Inns Group with comments to express their rage and disappointment over the company's handling of the incident. The Home Inns Group has responded to the comments on Weibo, saying that the manager's view does not represent that of the company and that the employee has been punished by the company. Last Sunday, a woman was attacked by a man in the hallway of a Yitel Hotel in Beijing's eastern Chaoyang District. A hotel staff who passed by the two while the attack occurred failed to stop the attacker. The attacker later ran away when some other guests intervened. The victim then posted her story and security video footage showing the incident on her Weibo account. Beijing police say five suspects have been detained in the investigation of the incident. ![]() The photo shows the statement issued by the Home Inns Group. [Photo: weibo.com] |
