Belgian prosecutors have launched a public appeal for any information relating to a suspect in the Brussels Airport suicide bombings that killed 16 people.

Belgian Federal Prosecutor, Eric Van der Sypt, has said the authorities were especially appealing to people who might have filmed or photographed the man.

"This appeal is specifically related to the third person who was present at the scene of the attacks in Zaventem airport, who we have described as "the man in the hat," in addition to detailing the clothes he wore at the time. So we managed to recreate the probable route of this person, who we will show you, and this appeal is directed to all people who think they might have any video, or a surveillance video, or even photos taken on this route. These persons will recognise the route and ask themselves that maybe they were there, which obviously could be of interest to the investigation."

The man described by the prosecutor was seen with the suicide bombers who died in the 22 March attacks.

Photos released by the prosecutors showed him leaving the airport on foot, walking to the nearby town of Zaventem and then into Brussels, where all traces of him were reportedly lost.

A subsequent explosion at Brussels' Maelbeek subway station killed another 16 people on the same day.
