More than 50 million Chinese have signed a patriotic online charter initiated one month ago to bless the nation and welcome the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

As of Monday, over 5.7 million blessing comments had also been collected for the scheme, entitled "Salute the national flag; Be a moral person," which was mainly sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China.

The charter was widely received among juveniles, as most signatures come from children across the country, according to a statement from educational authorities. Teachers and parents also think highly of the scheme.

Patriotic initiatives of this kind effectively reinforce children's understanding of socialist core values, the statement said.

The CPC congress is scheduled to be convened on Nov. 8 in Beijing.
