    Jiang Chunfang (1912锝?987)

    Born in Changzhou in Jiangsu province, the translator Jiang Chunfang moved to Harbin in 1928. He enlisted himself in the Chinese Communist Youth League in 1931 and the following year he joined the CCP. He served as Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Harbin City Committee and Publicity Department of Manchuria Province as well as the Russian translator for Harbin English-Asia News Agency. In 1936, he was rescued after being arrested by the Japanese in the Northeast. Then he was designated as general secretary of the Cultural Committee of the CCP Shanghai Bureau and editor-in-chief of Times Weekly. In 1945, he ran Times Daily and served as the chief editor & proprietor of Times Publishing House. After the establishment of the PRC in 1949, he experienced a series of working posts such as the president of Shanghai Russian School, director of International Liaison Department of Shanghai Culture Bureau and deputy director & consultant of Translation Bureau for the Works of Marx, Engles, Lenin and Stalin of Central CCP. He participated in the translation and editing of the Complete Works of Marx and Engles, Collected Works of Lenin and the Complete Works of Stalin, even the final work for some translations. In 1978, he presided the compiling and publication of the Encyclopedia of China and acted as the deputy director in the General Editing Committee for the Encyclopedia of China. He held the position of editor-in-chief & consultant for Encyclopedia of China Publishing House as well as the chairman of China Translators Association for the 1st and 2nd sessions. He is also the Standing Committeeman of the 5th and 6th sessions of National Committee of the CPPCC.
