Jin Jianxiao (1910锝?936)With the old name of Jin Chengzai, and writing name of Balai, Jin Jianxiao was born in Liaoyang city of Liaoning province. He was an underground member of the CCP, famous novelist, poet, painter, drama writer and movie director. In 1926, he was recruited by the Harbin Academy of Medicine and studied medicine there. In August 1937, he gave up his major, and devoted himself to a career in literature, serving as the editor for the literary supplement Riverside newspaper of Starlight recommended by Chen Ningqiu. In 1928, he went back to study at the Shanghai Art University, learning painting and finally was adept at oil painting, water color painting; ponder painting, sketch and wood carving after strict professional training. In the spring of 1939, he continued to study painting at Shanghai Xinhua Art University, during which he made frequent contacts with the underground CCP members and began to read a lot of literary works written by Lu Xun, Mao Dun and Jiang Guangci which made his political thoughts and literary art increasingly mature. He joined the Chinese Communist Youth League and China Communist Party respectively in 1929 and 1931. In the spring of 1932, he worked for the grass-root Anti-Japanese Community organized by Harbin City Committee led by the CCP and painted for Anti-Japanese mimeographed tabloid secretly published by the CCP Manchuria Provincial Committee. On June 13th, 1936, he was arrested by Japanese plainclothes officers and died a martyr at the young age of 26 near the White Tower at the North Gate of Qiqihaer city.
