The Double Ninth Festival, or Chongyang Festival, falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, usually in October on the solar calendar. Traditionally Chinese follow the custom as climbing mountains and enjoying chrysanthemum flowers in blossom to mark the festival. Since the Chinese government decided the Double Ninth Festival as the Seniors' Day in 1989, the old festival has become an annual "Respect-the-Senior Festival" around the country. (Xinhua/Gong Lei) |
