Chao Mei was born in Shandong Province in 1931. He is one of the creators of Beidahuang Engraving and a brilliant delegate of Beidahuang Engraving. He is director of the China Artists Association, vice-president of the Chinese Engraving Association, vice-president of Heilongjiang Literary Federation, honorary chairman of Heilongjiang Artist Association, president of Heilongjiang Engraving College and also a first-level artist.

He got the first session Heilongjiang Art Lifetime Achievement Award and a 2005-2006 鈥淰isual Arts Achievement Award鈥?authorized by the Chinese Literature Association. He has published 7 kinds of personal painting albums and 4 works.
