Researchers in southwest China's Qinghai Province are now using Satellite data to conduct dynamic monitoring of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau's glaciers. According to Qinghai Provincial Satellite Remote Sensing Center, a platform has been set up for the remote sensor of the typical largest glacier group on this plateau based on the data collected by China's Meteorological Satellites including MODIS, FY-3 and TM. So far, it is hard to know the whole situation and dynamic changes in the glaciers in such an area, because of the plateau's poor climatic conditions and high altitude above the sea level. However, it is an effective way to use satellite remote sensing technology to dynamically monitor the macro eco-environment and meteorological disasters. The monitoring results will provide accurate statistics for the government to learn about the changes in the plateau glaciers, like accumulation or shrinkage, so as to take protective measures in time |
