The following is a biographical sketch of Liao Hui, who was elected vice-chairman of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Thursday:

Liao Hui

Male, ethnic Han, born in May 1942, native of Huiyang, Guangdong Province. Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December 1965 and began working in August 1960. Graduated from Missile Engineering Department of Harbin Military Engineering Institute where he had majored in general design of ground-to-air missile. With a university education.

Member of the CPC Central Committee, vice-chairman of the 11th CPPCC National Committee and member of the Leading Party Members' Group in the 11th CPPCC National Committee, and director of the State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group.

1960-1965 Student of general design of ground-to-air missile at the Missile Engineering Department, Harbin Military Engineering Institute

1965-1972 Technician of the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA)

1972-1975 Air Force representative in charge of military product quality inspection in state-owned No. 761 Factory

1975-1980 Staff officer of Air Force Headquarters of PLA Beijing Military Area Command

1980-1983 Staff officer of Equipment Department of PLA General Staff

1983-1984 Deputy director and member of Leading Party Members' Group of the State Council's Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs, and first deputy director and vice secretary of Leading Party Members' Group of the Office
