Fudan University in Shanghai set up a " Stipend and Scholarship" fund for needy foreign students on September 11th. From this year on, the fund will be granted to one to three needy foreign students who are good both in character and academic performance each year so as to help them complete their studies.
Russian student Yuliya was the first overseas student to receive the fund. She used to work as an interpreter or a tour guide to earn tuition and living expenses.
However, Yuliya could only earn very little now as the number of Russian tourists has seen a decline since last year due to the financial crisis. She almost had an idea of dropping out.
Yuliya was so excited that she almost cried when she received 23,000 YUAN of scholarship. She could continue her study in shanghai thanks to the timely financial help.
Sponsored by the Shanghai Lvliang Electric Vehicle Company, the special fund titled "Fudan -Lvliang Stipend and Scholarship" is which is the first of its kind to subsidize needy overseas students at Fudan University.
