銆€銆€Luo Xiaoci has always been an incredible musician, but she is taking her talent to new levels through her own compositions and fusions with Western music.

銆€銆€Luo Xiaoci is an amazing artist. Famous for her talent as a guzheng (Chinese zither) soloist, she also excels at Chinese calligraphy and vocal arts while in recent years has began composing her own material.

銆€銆€Luo will put all of her talents together for a recital on Sunday night at the Shanghai Concert Hall.

銆€銆€The repertoire of her own compositions is quite varied and includes "The Spirit of Chinese Calligraphy for Zheng Solo," "In the Still of Night for Zheng and Cello," "Delicate Strings, for Zheng and Conga Drum," "Ru-Meng-Ling (Like A Dream) for Zheng, Xiao and Female Vocal," "Rhythms, for Zheng and Percussion" and "Return of Wen Ji to Han, Symphonic Poem for Zheng, Soprano, Chinese Orchestra and Chorus."

銆€銆€"The experience of playing contemporary compositions with a Western orchestra has driven me to express my own ideas and the best way is through my familiar instrument, the guzheng," says Luo.

銆€銆€"So I've composed several guzheng pieces. The composing work has offered a new angle to look back at the conceptions and knowledge that I had in mind."

銆€銆€Luo first attracted international attention when she played at the 2001 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit reception in Shanghai with two other traditional Chinese musicians - erhu (two-stringed fiddle) soloist Ma Xiaohui and dizi (horizontal bamboo flute) player Tang Junqiao.

銆€銆€Daughter of an artist father and ballet dancer mother, Luo is currently a soloist with the Shanghai Traditional Music Orchestra which is famous for merging various art forms for live performances.

銆€銆€These include zheng playing to writing Chinese calligraphy on the spot, symphonic choruses and poetry recitation.
