        Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Monday met with principal administrative, legislative and judiciary officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) here.

        He said, with the support of the Central Government and the people of the whole nation, Hong Kong has overcome various difficulties and maintained its stability, prosperity and sustainable development since its return to the motherland 11 years ago.

        The HKSAR maintained its status as an international center for finance, trade, and shipping while taking on a new look, he said.

        The meeting was held in the hotel where the vice president is staying in Hong Kong. Vice Chairmen of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Liao Hui and HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang were also present at the meeting.

        Xi noted that the Central Government gives "full approval" to the performance of the administrative team led by Tsang, adding that "Hong Kong's general situation is fine now."

        During the meeting, the vice president also encouraged the HKSAR officials to continue mutual support and close cooperation and focus their efforts on developing economy, effectively improving local people's livelihood, and promoting the gradual and orderly development of democracy.

        Early in the morning Xi met with Tung Chee-hwa, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and former Chief Executive of HKSAR.

        The vice president arrived in Hong Kong Sunday morning on a three-day inspection tour.(Northeast.cn)
