Prof. Wang Guangyuan was born in Wenxian County, Henan Province in 1924. He graduated from the Hydraulic Engineering Department of the Public North-west Agricultural Institute in 1946. In 1950, he came to study in the graduate class in Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). At present, he is a professor and Ph.D. Supervisor and the honorary president of the College of Civil Engineering in HIT, the honorary director of the Engineering Theory and Application Research Institute of HIT, the editorial committeeman of the international journal Engineering Optimization, and the committeeman of the International Structure Security and Reliability Association. He had been the deputy director-general of the Mechanics Society of China; and had been a member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the National Natural Science Foundation Disciplines Group. In 1994, he was selected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.His main achievements include 鈥淐onstruction Space Integrity Calculation Theory鈥? 鈥淪tructure Fuzzy Optimal Design Theory鈥? and 鈥淓ngineering Soft Design Theory鈥?
