Born in Hailun, Heilongjiang Province in 1939, Mr. Feng Shaoxian is an accomplished performer of Yueqin (Chinese folk musical instrument, a lute with oval or octagonal sound box). He was a member of Chinese Musicians Association, director of Chinese National Orchestral Music Association, Vice Chairman of Heilongjiang Musicians Association, and Vice Chairman of Heilongjiang National Orchestral Music Association. Since 1950s he began to make some reform on Yueqin and succeeded in widening its ranges by arranging the frets according to twelve-tone equal temperament and invented many playing skills, which enriched and enhanced the musical expression of Yueqin. His major compositions include Yueqin solo of Fishermen鈥檚 Songs on Songhua River(co-composer); Mighty Army of Million Soldiers Crossing the River (co-composer); The Life Sketch of Northern Ethnic Groups(co-composer); and The Song of the Black Earth (singing while playing the Three Strings) (co-composer),etc.. He also published Collections of Yueqin Solos.
