Over the past two months, staff from the Harbin Northern Forest Zoo and the Evening News of Heilongjiang TV City Channel have visited Beijing and Chengdu many times in an effort to invite a giant panda to stay in the northeast city for one year.
According to Zhou Guoliang, producer of the Evening News, inviting "Pride" to Harbin is a gift from the program to say "thank you" to the television viewers and the local residents. 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the first airing of Evening News.
After many rounds of consultation with panda protection departments, on April 28th the giant panda "Pride" was shipped to Harbin from Sichuan by air. The keepers at the Harbin Northern Forest Zoo created a special environment suitable for the precious animal for his new life in the northeastern city.
In the forthcoming days, the Evening News of Heilongjiang TV City Channel and the Harbin Northern Forest Zoo will introduce a series of panda-visitor interactive activities such as "Taking pictures for Pride" and "Kung fu panda learns martial arts".
