Mainland actor Wang Xuebing, famous for his portrayal of police officers in TV dramas and films, is turning his talents to a different kind of role -- playing a warm-hearted young man who helps his friends fulfil their college dreams.

The shooting of "College Entrance Exams -- 1977" is now under way in town and the movie is due for release in March.

The film's title refers to the year the entrance exam system was restored.

It had been abolished for 11 years during the "culture revolution (1966-1976)."

The film produced by Shanghai Film Group Corporation centers on a group of young people who take the exam and go on to great success.

"There are many touching scenes in this movie," Wang said.

"Thirty years ago, the exam was considered the best chance to change people's lives. It also reminds me never to lose hope for the future." (Northeast web)
