"The world was greatly impressed by the perfect organization of the event and the outstanding achievements of athletes," Crvenkovski said in a letter to his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao.

    "The Olympic Games in Beijing have set new standards and written new chapters in the history of the Olympic movement," he said.

    Crvenkovski also congratulated China on its historic success in the medals table.

    Chinese athletes have won 100 medals, which include 51 gold, 21silver and 28 bronze, at the 16-day Games, which ended Sunday. (Northeast web)
