The elderly woman is a Japanese war orphan named Sumie Ikeda. 80 years ago, when Japan announced its unconditional surrender, she was just ten months old.As the Japanese invasion forces retreated, her father, then a major in the Japanese army, abandoned her in Mudanjiang City. A Chinese couple, Xu Benzhi and Liu Xiufen, took this abandoned “enemy's baby” home, enduring hardship and humiliation while bringing her up. They gave her a Chinese name – Xu Ming.
