Elections of new deputies to people's congresses in township and county-level regions are scheduled to kick off in 2021, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws, according to a meeting on Friday.
In line with the amendment to China's electoral law that was adopted last October, the base numbers of deputies to people's congresses at the township and county levels will be increased, according to the meeting jointly held by the General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and two other central authorities.
The increases are expected to allow more members of the general public and community workers to speak for the people at the local people's congresses, according to the meeting, which also highlighted measures to ensure the democratic rights of the migrant population in the elections. Enditem
