Brush-making has powered the development of a small town in eastern China. Last year, brush products churned out in Yuantan Township, Anhui Province, generated a revenue of more than 6 billion yuan (864 million U.S. dollars), and were sold to scores of countries and regions around the world, according to the latest figures released by the local government. Local authorities said 70 percent of brushes for industrial usage and 90 percent of those for environmental usage in China are produced in Yuantan. "Up to 1,000 types of brushes are manufactured in Yuantan," said Zhu Jinsong, deputy head of the township. "Some brushes are several meters long, while others are just a few millimeters." Zhu said that the local government has stepped up investment in relevant research and development, and local companies are working with colleges to enhance technology that can help boost the industry. "We need to continue improving the quality of our products," Zhu said. |
