Over the last six years, the website of China's top anti-graft authority has exposed 1,411 cases of officials' misconduct violating the eight-point frugality code of the Communist Party of China (CPC) that occurred during the holidays of Labor Day and the Dragon Boat Festival. According to an article on the website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission Wednesday, unauthorized allowances or bonuses were the most common misdemeanor during these holidays, accounting for about 20 percent of the total violations. About 17 percent of the cases involved violations in the purchase and use of public vehicles, while accepting gifts and money in violation of regulations, holding lavish weddings or funerals and using public funds for personal travels were also among the most frequently-seen cases, according to the article's count. However, the article noted a sharp drop of such violations over recent years, as the statistics showed that 94 percent of the total cases happened between 2013 and 2016, while no more than 6 percent took place in the ensuing two years. To date, there was only one case exposed this year. The Dragon Boat Festival, a Chinese folk culture festival also called Duanwu Festival, is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on Friday this year. |
