A man has embarked on a solo marathon to cover 3,000 km between northeast China's Shenyang and the southern city of Shenzhen.

Wang Liguo, a middle- and long-distance running coach, set off on the journey in Shenyang, Liaoning Province last Thursday.

He is scheduled to reach Shenzhen, Guangdong Province and participate in a cross-country race there in March.

45-year-old Wang said he plans to cover a daily average of 60 km and had finished 240 km as of yesterday.

Wang said his route, which is basically a straight line linking north and south China, will lead him to bypass the Bohai Bay, the Chinese gulf to the south of Liaoning Province, before running through the Provinces of Shandong, Jiangsu and Jiangxi.

Wang has brought meat paste, a pot, a mat and a sleeping bag with him.

He said he plans to cook for himself in the wild.

At night, he is settling in the wilderness, threatened by the cold. Currently, in northeast China, the winter temperatures could reach lows of somewhere around minus 20 degrees Celsius.

But Wang said he is optimistic and seeking joy from these challenges even.

The runner said he is prepared for many dangers, joking that "robbers cannot catch up with my speed."

Wang has been a long-distance runner for the past 30 years. He has also won championships in several marathons held in complex road conditions, including plateaus, deserts and hilly areas, since 2001.

As 2017 starts, Wang said he would like to challenge himself once again, despite that he is still recovering from a ligament injury he suffered last October.

Wang plans to complete his latest journey on March 3.
