![]() Photo taken on Feb. 10, 2016 shows the "Gold Room" at the Mount Washington, in Bretton Woods, the United States. The articles of agreement setting up the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were signed in this room in July, 1944. Delegates from 44 nations gathered in Bretton Woods to take part in the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference and hammered out the Bretton Woods Agreement. Under the Bretton Woods regime, the U.S. dollar were pegged to gold and all other currencies were pegged to the U.S. dollar. And the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, were set up.
