Bai Lang (Female) Aug 20,1912 - Feb 7,1994Born in Shen Yang of Liao Ning province with the original name of Liu Donglan, Bai Lang was also known for her writing name Liu Li. Her name first appeared in her essay of 鈥楴othing but One Road' published on Jan 5th, 1934. She participated in the Great Anti-Japanese Federation in 1931, engaging herself as a writer for International Association Daily and editor-in-chief for its literary supplement in Harbin. Then she ran a Literature & Art Weekly. In 1941 she moved to Yan'an and joined the CCP in 1945. She was engaged in a series of work experiences as editor for Liberation Daily in Yan'an and trustee of Yan'an Branch of National Literary Anti-Japanese Association. She was minister & undersecretary of Supplement Department of Northeast Daily and Publishing Department of Northeast literature & Art Association respectively, and subeditor of Northeast literature. After the foundation of PRC in 1949, she devoted herself in the work posts as vice-president of Northeast Literature and Art Association, committeewoman of the 2nd Chinese Federation of Literature, trustee of the 1st and 2nd sessions of Chinese Writers' Association and one of the representatives of the first NPC. Her masterpieces are listed as follows: essay collection From Moon Night to Daybreak, short story collection Riverside of Ivalu, nouvelle For the Happiness of Tomorrow, saga novel marching on the Track and the Anthology of Bai Lang. In 1953, she made her attendance at the World Congress of Women. Magnum Opus: Riverside of Ivalu, The Escaping Diary, Living and Dying, In Four Years. |
