Airport authorities in Yunnan's capital, Kunming, are moving to simplify the security process for transfer passengers.

Under the new rules, international travelers will no longer need to collect and recheck their luggage before boarding their connecting flights.

Currently, most airports in China still require transfer passengers to recheck their luggage and check-in for a second time before boarding a connecting flight.

Lei Yonggang with the Changshui Airport in Kunming, says the move will definitely ease transfer times.

"The traditional transfer model is not as convenient as the new one. For most transfers, passengers have to collect their checked luggage in Kunming and those flying on international flights have to go through two customs inspections. Their luggage needs to be checked by the customs at their departure city and then they recheck their luggage in Kunming. That is two inspections. The advantage of the new transfer process is that there is no customs check at the departure cities."

International travellers through Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou don't have to re-check their luggage.

Most airports around the world have already done away with an additional screening process for international travellers.
