U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner were interviewed by Chen Luyu, host of the TV talk show "A Date with Luyu" in Beijing on Sunday, the "Chinanews.com" reports.

The U.S. embassy in Beijing notified Phoenix Television that Chen could conduct an interview with Clinton who had just arrived in Beijing to participate in the second round of the China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue along with Geithner.

Clinton and Geithner did a 30-minute interview with Chen, whose program is watched by about 65 million people every day.

The two heavyweights of U.S. President Barack Obama's administration were the first high-level American officials to appear on the program. It was the only television interview that they gave during their trip to China.

Clinton told host Luyu, known as "China's Oprah" after American talk show presenter Oprah Winfrey, "We're looking for more ways to have more people-to-people connections. As important as the government-to-government work is that we are both doing, so is creating a strong foundation where the American and Chinese people get to know each other, finding ways to cooperate. That is the platform for the future."
