Police have taken into custody a woman who was attempting to stab children at a children's club in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province on Thursday, local media reports.
The incident happened between 10:50 am and 10:55 am, says a parent surnamed Shen whose son was having a music class in the teaching building at the time. The woman, holding a rusty knife, rushed into the waiting hall, with security guards and traffic police hot on her heels, Shen adds.
The woman appeared to be psychologically sound and did not resist police, according to Shen. The case is still under investigation and no further details have yet been released.
Following Wednesday's deadly attack on a kindergarten in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local governments nationwide have been urged to upgrade security measures by both the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education. Security sweeps by police have been strengthened, while police forces have been asked to step up measures to safeguard children in schools and kindergartens.
