A new Ka-32 helicopter named Snow Eagle is on board the vessel Snow Dragon for China's 26th Antarctic exploration.
The Snow Eagle officially joined China's Antarctic exploration team last Saturday. A team of 251 members left on board the vessel Snow Dragon for the country's 26th Antarctic exploration last Sunday from Shanghai.
The Russian-designed Ka-32 helicopter has a maximum loading capacity of 12.7 tons and co-axial rotor.
From 1999, China started renting helicopters from other countries to conduct research in Polar Regions. A Ka-32 helicopter rented from South Korea played a key role in the construction of China's Kunlun Station in the country's 24th and 25th Antarctic explorations.
