China' s 26th Antarctic Expedition started off for the ice and snow continent from Shanghai Port. Two of the three Heilongjiang engineers enrolled by the team are among this batch of expedition.
Start-off ceremony of the Antarctic expedition team was held with hundreds of people waving hands and saying goodbye last Sunday. Three engineers from Heilongjiang Mapping and Survey Service Bureau were enrolled in the team and this time two of them are on board the icebreaker Snow Dragon.
Heilongjiang Mapping and Survey Service Bureau is one of the four direct branches of China's National Mapping and Survey Bureau and the only one among the four that participated in the country's Antarctic exploration missions.
The expedition will conduct 59 scientific researches and finish the construction of China's third Antarctic Research Station Kunlun that stands 4,087 meters above sea level and 7.3 kilometers southwest of Dome Argus.
6 countries including the United States, Russia, Japan, France, Italy and Germany have built inland research stations in Antarctic, and China started its Antarctic Exploration in 1984. The Snow Dragon will return to Shanghai next April.
