Amid ice-harvesting chants over the frozen Songhua River, the Sixth Harbin Ice Harvesting Festival recently kicked off in Harbin. This folk ceremony, rich in the cultural character of Northeast China, has once again ignited a tourism boom, heralding a fresh winter cultural and tourism feast.
Visitors gathered at the harvesting site to watch ice sculptors carve with chisels, experience intangible cultural heritage such as the Hezhen ethnic group’s fishskin art, and try local dishes like iron-pot stewed river fish and sticky bean buns.
