The cumulative natural gas output from Daqing Oilfield's Sichuan-Chongqing exploration area in southwest China had exceeded 4 billion cubic meters as of Monday.
The company said the milestone marks a major phased achievement in the development of the area and highlights its growing role in supporting regional economic growth.
Spanning Chongqing Municipality and the cities of Guang'an, Nanchong, Dazhou and Bazhong in Sichuan Province, the exploration zone covers a total area of 16,300 square kilometers and holds geological reserves of natural gas that have been estimated at 100 billion cubic meters.
Daqing Oilfield, a subsidiary of PetroChina, has made a significant contribution to China's modern petroleum industry.
