Recently, international students from countries including Russia, Vietnam, Laos, Sri Lanka, Senegal, and Madagascar visited Jiamusi City to experience the culture of the Hezhe ethnic group. They admired and created fish-skin handicrafts, wore traditional fish-skin clothing and Hezhe attire, and took commemorative photos together.

Jiamusi City is a major birthplace and settlement area of the Hezhe ethnic group. The Hezhe is one of China's smallest ethnic minorities, traditionally living along the Heilongjiang, Ussuri, and Songhua Rivers. Because they reside in the easternmost part of the country, they are known as "the people who watch over the sun."
