The mission forms part of a broader initiative preparing for the launch of Yakutia’s first miniaturised spacecraft
Russian school students have launched a stratospheric probe equipped with a student-built satellite, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
The project involved 48 pupils who participated in the nationwide programme under the auspices of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science.
The probe carried a functional satellite designed and assembled entirely by Yakutia’s school students. The satellite was outfitted with a camera, Geiger counter, infrared sensors, air quality sensors, and spectral analysis equipment, enabling it to collect critical environmental and atmospheric data during its flight.
The probe is expected to reach an altitude of 30 kilometres, with a designated landing zone. The mission forms part of a broader initiative preparing for the launch of Yakutia’s first miniaturised spacecraft, scheduled for 31 July 2025.
Earlier, in spring 2024, pupils from Yakutia and China jointly launched a stratospheric probe that reached 31.5 kilometres in altitude before landing on the right bank of the Lena River.
