Alexandre Silveira, Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy, emphasised the importance of balancing energy security, sustainable development and the transition to a low-carbon future.
Silveira believes that sharing best practices and developing joint projects can strengthen the BRICS' role in global governance. He emphasised that financing the energy transition is a key challenge and strategic discussions need to be advanced.

The Minister emphasised the need for resources for investment in infrastructure, renewable energy, and mineral research.
Finally, Silveira said BRICS is well placed to lead the development of clean fuels, highlighting the potential to implement different solutions and scale different technology routes, accelerating the decarbonisation of strategic sectors such as transport and industry.

He pointed out that access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy is critical to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. He outlined the energy initiatives that Ethiopia's government has been implementing based on national plans and strategies, including its Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy.
