Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed the order establishing the centre

The Russian government has approved the creation of a scientific and technological centre dedicated to advancing mRNA-based technologies, paving the way for the development of innovative medicines, including treatments for cancer.

The initiative, launched under a directive from the President, aims to strengthen the country’s position in cutting-edge medical research, as reported by the official website of the Russian government.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed the order establishing the centre, which will function as a consortium of 17 leading research institutions.

The centre’s primary objective is to facilitate the comprehensive development of mRNA-based pharmaceuticals for the treatment and prevention of severe diseases. The government has already allocated around US$6.13 million from its reserve fund to procure equipment for the production of these innovative medicines.

The decision aligns with the President’s directive following the Future Technologies Forum in February 2024, where he emphasised the importance of investing in mRNA research, particularly for cancer treatment in the pharmaceutical sector.
