This initiative aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while leveraging environmentally friendly

The Indonesian researchers have developed a metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) catalyst to convert coconut oil into bio-jet fuel, offering a renewable and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil-based jet fuels. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

Bio-jet fuel, derived from vegetable oils, represents a key step towards achieving sustainable energy solutions. Crucially, coconuts unsuitable for consumption, such as old, small, or mouldy ones, can be processed into bio-jet fuel, maximising resource efficiency.

The MOFs-based catalyst enables the productive and effective conversion of coconut oil into bio-jet fuel. Laboratory trials have demonstrated its viability, with potential for upscaling to industrial production. This innovation aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while leveraging environmentally friendly, locally sourced materials to advance Indonesia’s energy sustainability.

According to the source, this research not only promises to transform Indonesia’s aviation sector but also serves as a model for other nations aiming to transition to renewable energy and achieve long-term environmental goals.
