China's better-than-expected economic performance in the third quarter (Q3) of 2023 is a sign of resilience in its economy, leading Croatian economist and former Croatian minister of economy Ljubo Jurcic told Xinhua on Wednesday.
China's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 4.9 percent in Q3, up 1.3 percent over Q2. It grew 5.2 percent year on year in the first three quarters of 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Jurcic said he believes the Chinese economy can achieve its goal of 5 percent economic growth this year, crediting its sustained economic recovery to the slew of stimulus policies and measures taken by the government.
China has implemented many infrastructure projects, and ensured development for the next 20 years, Jurcic noted.
"It is in everyone's interest that China continues to develop," the economics professor at the University of Zagreb added, citing recent reports by the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, which said that China will continue to be a major contributor to global economic growth this year.
"China will continue to be a country that will enable the whole of Asia and the world to develop, and a strong Chinese economy will bring quality of life to its citizens and the development of all parts of China," he said.
