Foreign Ministers of Russia and China held a telephone conversation
On Monday, 7 August, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, as reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Russian diplomat congratulated his Chinese counterpart on his appointment as head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. The heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries discussed the achieved successes of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. They praised the current level of Russian-Chinese relations and outlined prospects for their development. In the dialogue, the sides paid special attention to the agenda of mutual interest with regard to the implementation of agreements reached at the highest political level.
In addition, Lavrov and Wang Yi discussed several topical issues on the international agenda. Among them is the interaction between Russia and China in multilateral international organisations and associations such as the United Nations, BRICS, SCO and the G20.
The regular contact between the ministers of the two countries confirmed the unity of Moscow's and Beijing's approaches to world affairs. The parties declared their readiness to further strengthen coordination in different areas.
Wang Yi was appointed as the new Foreign Minister of China at the end of July this year, his predecessor was Qin Gang. Previously, Wang Yi had already held the post of Chinese Foreign Minister for almost ten months.
