Poland's rowers shared the secret of their success after taking five medals at the Chengdu Universiade on Sunday.

The competitions at Sichuan Water Sports School proved the quality of the Polish rowers, who took five medals, including three golds.

In the mixed quadruple sculls, Barbara Streng, Katarzyna Duda, Jakub Wozniak, Kajetan Szewczyk beat Italy and Germany to stand on the top of podium.

"The rivals surprised us. We expected Germany to be the toughest opponent, but the Italians threatened us the most. However, we were fully focused on ourselves. We had a good plan which worked," Szewczyk told Polish media just after the match.

"We felt very motivated as in the other disciplines Polish athletes had good results. It isn't easy to fight for the podium, but when you have a medal, you feel great satisfaction," Szewczyk added.

In the lightweight women's single sculls, Zuzanna Jasinska grabbed the gold ahead of Italy's Elena Sali and Germany's Julia Tertunte.

"I started with a high pace, then I kept that. That was the strategy. I'm happy that I was able to adapt to the conditions. It's good that our team did a great job on Sunday," Jasinska claimed.

Krzysztof Kasparek and Bartosz Bartkowski won the contest of the men's double sculls, while their women's four followed China to settle for silver. Poland's women's double sculls also finished second.
