China has remained unbeaten in the badminton mixed team event as they cruised past Japan 3-0 to march into the semifinals in the FISU World University Games here on Tuesday.
In the mixed doubles, China's newly-formed pair Ren Xiangyu and Liu Xuanxuan edged their Japanese opponents in a full-set thriller 2-1, which ignited deafening cheers from the audience.
"We changed our tactics on the serve-receive, thus creating variations to stretch our opponents," Ren said after the match.
Wang Zhengxing nailed a convincing victory over Japan's Noda Toma 2-0 in the men's singles.
In other encounters, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia also booked semifinal berths after beating the United States and Hong Kong, China respectively, while South Korea was upset by Thailand 3-1.
