Chengdu Universiade | China edges S. Korea to win archery recurve women's team title

Following a victory in the compound men's team, China pocketed another archery gold in the recurve women's team on Sunday.

China edged out South Korea 5-4 to claim the archery recurve women's team title at the 31st FISU World University Games here on Sunday.

South Korean Lee Ga-hyun only shot a 2 in the first attempt, gifting China an easy lead. However, S. Korea archers found their rhythm back in the following two sets, seizing two 55s over China's 53, 52 to overtake the lead at 4-2. The Chinese team kept calm under pressure, won the fourth set 54-53 to tie at 4-all, dragging the competition into the decider.

In the decider, South Korea shot an 8 in the first arrow while China scored a 9 for the narrow lead, which China kept until the final victory as both teams tied 10-10 and 9-9 in the following shots.

"After I shot a 7, I wondered why I had made a mistake and began to doubt myself. At that time, the encouragement from my teammates helped me rebuild my confidence," said Chinese archer Wang Limin.

"In the decider, I was not very nervous when South Korea shot an 8. I shouted to myself to cheer me up. I believe I can do it," said Li Xinxin who shot the final arrow.

The bronze medal went to India who edged France 5-4.

The individual finals will be held on Monday.
