China's weekly farm-produce prices edge down

China's farm-produce prices went down last week, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

From July 12 to July 18, the overall price of farm produces fell 0.1 percent on a weekly basis.

The wholesale price of pork declined 0.9 percent week on week to 20.9 yuan (about 3.2 U.S. dollars) per kg. The wholesale prices of mutton and beef edged down 0.9 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.

The wholesale price of eggs rose 0.8 percent on a weekly basis, and that of chicken dropped 0.4 percent week on week.

The average wholesale prices of 30 types of vegetables went up 0.7 percent from a week earlier.

Food accounts for approximately one-third of China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation.

The CPI rose 1.1 percent year on year in June, down from the 1.3-percent growth rate in May, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. Enditem
