The second Harbin Ice Collecting Festival kicks off today on the frozen Songhua River. According to Chinese solar term, it is the day of “Greater Snow” today. The event represents a folk custom of ice collecting that has a history of more than 100 years, marking the start of the city's annual ice harvest. The ice blocks will be used to build the Harbin Ice and Snow World.
