China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has installed the world's largest slurry-bed residue hydrogenation reactor in Zhoushan, east China's Zhejiang Province, setting a record for hoisting the heaviest single piece of equipment in the country.
Sinopec, the country's leading energy and chemicals company, said Wednesday in an online statement that the installation was completed on June 10 within about 15 hours.
Designed by Sinopec Engineering, the largest single-unit hydrogenation reactor in the world weighs 3,025 tonnes, equivalent to 17 blue whales, the largest animal on Earth, and has a height of 72 meters that corresponds to a 26-story building, the company said.
The reactor's outside diameter is 6.156 meters and it has a wall thickness of 320 mm. It is the core equipment of a key refining-chemical integration project of Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical Co., Ltd.
