Shanghai on Monday reported its first local patient of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infected by an imported case, as well as nine cases from other countries, the municipal health authority said Tuesday.
The patient who lives in Baoshan District had been in close contact with an imported COVID-19 case in Guangdong Province during a business trip on March 14 and 15, according to the Shanghai municipal health commission.
The latest case has brought the total number of indigenous confirmed COVID-19 cases in Shanghai to 339.
The commission said a total of 75 imported cases had been reported by the end of Monday, while 20 suspected imported cases are under quarantine for further confirmation.
Among the 81 patients that are being treated in hospital, 73 are imported cases. Nine of the hospitalized patients are in serious or critical conditions, according to the commission.
