A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has stressed promoting the spirit of Lei Feng, a soldier well-known in China for his generosity and altruistic deeds, and improving the volunteer service system.
Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Tuesday at a symposium held in the city of Fushun, northeast China's Liaoning Province.
Noting that Lei's spirit is a precious cultural wealth of the Chinese nation, Huang called for efforts to promote the qualities of dedication, unity and mutual help, as well as voluntary service for the society and the people.
He also stressed meeting the diversified needs of the people, making innovations and improving public participation in upholding Lei Feng's spirit in the new era.
