Chinese shares closed mixed Wednesday with sub-new stocks performing strong and the liquor industry losing the most. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.18 percent to close at 2,725.84, while the Shenzhen Component Index dipped 0.44 percent to end at 8,010.69 points. The combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 236.04 billion yuan (about 34.17 billion U.S. dollars), up from 231.8 billion yuan the previous trading day. Sub-new stocks led the gains with 3.06 percent sub-index uptick. Jiangxi-based magnetic materials producer JL MAG Rare-Earth Co., Ltd. together with Guangdong Topstrong Living Innovation & Integration Co., Ltd. both hiked the daily limit of 10 percent, ending at 15.13 yuan and 31.19 yuan respectively. Bucking the upward trend, the liquor industry board continued its losing streak, dropping the most on Wednesday by 3.47 percent. Sichuan Swellfun Co., Ltd. lost 6.55 percent to end at 35.22 yuan. Another Sichuan-based liquor company Luzhou Laojiao slid 6.31 percent to 41.7 yuan. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 0.06 percent to close at 1,346.7. |
