Chinese stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the furniture industry leading the rally. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.14 percent to close at 2,730.85. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.41 percent higher to end at 8,248.12. Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 319.86 billion yuan (about 46.65 billion U.S. dollars), up from 253.66 billion yuan Tuesday. The furniture industry led the gains with the sub-index rising 3.33 percent. Si Chuan Shengda Forestry Industry went up 9.93 percent to close at 4.54 yuan. Oil and liquor-making industries were among the gainers, with their sub-indices both rising 2.38 percent. Bucking the upward trend, the cement industry lost 0.6 percent. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 1.1 percent to close at 1,392.4. |
